Tragedy averted ... the accident site on the New England Highway.
The life-saving properties of the BarrierGuard 800 came under the spotlight recently after a truck driver lost control of his vehicle on the New England Highway at Whittingham.
The 60 tonne vehicle collided with the end cushion of the barrier at 80km/h.
Boylan Traffic Solutions national operations manager Wayne Duckworth said the driver walked away unharmed from the crash.
“He was a very lucky man because the barrier contained the truck and prevented it from colliding with other vehicles on the road,” Wayne said.
He said the vehicle only ended up on its side because of a 500mm-deep excavation channel that had been dug nearby.
“The anchor has held beautifully as the barrier stretched to contain the load - however, once the vehicle hit the excavation channel, it tipped,” he said.
